The Conanicut Yacht Club was founded in 1892 and is one of the oldest yacht clubs on Narragansett Bay. This month’s exhibit in the JHS case in the foyer of Town Hall celebrates the many activities of the club.
The featured piece is the silver tray awarded to Price Wetherill Slattery as second prize in the Pilot class sailboat race on Labor Day 1953. The tray is a recent gift from his two children, James and Rebecca. Programs for Water Sports Day, which were sponsored by the club in the 1930s, and mementos of the 1992 centennial celebration are also on display.
Visit the Town Hall to see the entire exhibit and please consider donating your Jamestown memorabilia to Jamestown Historical Society, contact info@jhsri.org.
