Battery Day 2022
Battery Day sponsored by the Jamestown Historical Society was held on May 21, 2022 at the Conanicut Battery. The 2nd Rhode Island Continental Regiment, the Kingston Reds, the 54th Regiment of Foot demonstrated Revolutionary War tactics and artillery at the battery before an enthusiastic crowd of attendees.

2021 Preview Party – And Farm Tour
Because of restraints of the COVID pandemic, this year’s members fundraiser was a combination of a cocktail party held on August 26 at the lovely 1927 Sarah Cresswell cottage, which had been recently restored and beautifully landscaped, and guided tours of three of Jamestown’s farms.

The guest speaker for the Jamestown Historical Society’s 2021 annual meeting was Anne Tait, MFA, Professor of Art at Roger Williams University. Her presentation was titled “Art in the Cemetery, Changing Fashion of Grave Markers.

JHS Members Outing Blue Garden
Members of the Jamestown Historical Society toured the Blue Garden in Newport on Thursday, July 8. The garden was created in 1913 by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Curtiss James using the Olmsted Brothers firm. The garden gradually deteriorated to ruin, its restoration begun in 2012 by Mrs. Dorrance Hamilton.

National Register Plaque at the Jamestown Windmill
The new brass plaque, sponsored by a grant from the William Pomeroy Foundation, was placed on the mill this summer. The windmill has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973.

Library Exhibit, November 2019 Remembering Our Veterans
In honor of Veterans’ Day, November 11, medals and certificates awarded to Jamestowners during World War I and World War II are on display in the JHS exhibit case in the foyer of the Jamestown Philomenian Library.
