George Whitley spoke about the history of this special corn and the milling of it, and he made jonnycakes with flint corn for all attendees to enjoy.

Native Americans introduced the colonists to whitecap corn (flint corn) which is hard to grow and doesn’t yield as much as other varieties of corn. It is still grown in small batches in RI. George Whitley will talk about the history of this special corn and milling it, and he will make jonnycakes with flint corn for all attendees to enjoy. He will also have a few bags of the cornmeal for sale and will give everyone the recipe.

This year’s Volunteer Party was held at the JAC to thank our many volunteers for their hard work.
