Larchmont Remembered: The Suffering, Depravity, and Wonder of Rhode Island’s Most Horrific Sea Disaster
The sinking of the steamship Larchmont off of Block Island in February 1907 was a terrible tragedy. Most were lost, but some miraculously survived. Learn what happened, who was responsible, and about the brave heroes who risked their lives to help that night.
George Whitely, Rhode Island Jonnycakes
Native Americans introduced the colonists to whitecap corn (flint corn) which is hard to grow and doesn’t yield as much as other varieties of corn. It is still grown in small batches in RI. George Whitley will talk about the history of this special corn and milling it, and he will make jonnycakes with flint corn for all attendees to enjoy. He will also have a few bags of the cornmeal for sale and will give everyone the recipe.
