Library Exhibit – February 2018: Black History Month

Our Black History

Over 15 percent of Colonial Jamestowners were Black slaves. Through the hard economic times after the American Revolution, few Blacks remained. The needs of visitors in the Resort Era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries attracted some Black Americans to return, but few remained.

The Black History Month exhibit in the library celebrates these members of our community.
