Vital and Essential Records: Birth to Death

July Town Hall Exhibit 2024

The July 2024 exhibit features objects in the JHS collection that are seldom exhibited.

In the July exhibit in the display case in the foyer of Town Hall, documents from the JHS collection record all life’s turning points from a birth certificate to a last will and testament.  The earliest document on display is a 1787 marriage certificate for Thomas Barber of Hopkinton and Betsy Greenold of Jamestown.  Other documents include a divorce degree, an indenture contract, and the naturalization certificate conveying citizenship on one of Jamestown’s many immigrants.

The exhibit in the Town Hall is changed monthly.
