The JHS Annual Meeting was held at the Jamestown Philomenian Library, Monday August 7th.  At the well attended meeting, the President, Mary Heath, recapped the successful year and thanked all the hard workers especially the outgoing board members.  The nominating committee’s slate of officers and board members were then proposed and accepted.  The speaker Charlotte Taylor, author of the recently published Images of American: Rhode Island Shipwrecks, spoke and showed many very interesting images of Rhode Island shipwrecks including some of our Jamestown wrecks.

Taylor is an archaeologist at the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, the state agency responsible for the identification and management of historic sites.  Rhode Island has more shipwrecks per square mile than any other state, and in her book Taylor has captured dramatic images of many 19th and 20th century disasters.  She also works closely with the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project (RIMAP) on projects such as RIMAP’s ongoing study of the Revolutionary War fleet
