History of the Jamestown Town Hall
First Two Hundred Years
For over 200 years, Jamestown was without a permanent building within which to conduct the business of the town. Each elected Town Clerk stored the town records in his home or office.
The first Town Hall was built on the site of the current Town Hall in 1883.
A Century of Change
The town grew quickly in the late 19th and 20th centuries and many plans were proposed to expand, move, and rebuild the 1883 building. Finally, in 2007, the current Town Hall was opened, incorporatiing the original Town Hall as the Council Chamber.
