In addition to speaking about the recently released book on his family’s 150-year-old gallery, Terry will discuss the Vose’s history in Jamestown. The Vose family, which owned Cajacet (also known as The Thomas Paine House) for more than 50 years, gave the Historical Society two of its most prized works of Jamestown art.

“Jamestown Harbor at Sunset”, a painting by Edward Mitchell Bannister (1828 – 1901) and “Field on Conanicut After Rain” by Henry Orne Ryder (1860-1943) were both presented to the Jamestown Historical Society by S. Morton Vose II. The paintings are currently on exhibit at the Jamestown Arts Center in the Nina A. Baugh exhibition, open through March 5.

Terry is the son of Robert (Bob) C. Vose Jr. who began Tales of an Art Dealer: The History of Vose Galleries Boston many years ago. Terry completed and published his father’s book in 2012. Together father and son tell a fascinating tale of art history through the story of Vose Galleries Inc. from 1841 to 1995. During the event at the JAC, Terry will offer his personal look at five generations of this family business.

Tales of an Art Dealer: The History of Vose Galleries Boston will be available for sale during the event, and Mr. Vose will be signing purchased copies.
