Professor Simmons is best known to Jamestowners for having excavated the Narragansett graves at West Ferry that yielded the material now on display in the Jamestown Philomenian Library’s Wright Room. His Jamestown work is described in his book Cautantowwit’s House (1970). He has written two other books on the Narragansetts and New England tribes more generally.

The occasion is the 340th anniversary of the Great Swamp Fight that virtually destroyed the Narragansett people in New England.
