Battery Work Day

The JHS Battery Committee is looking for volunteers on Saturday morning (Nov 12) to help seed the newly cleared area west of the Revolutionary War earthwork. The clearing, done last month by Atlantic Landscaping, greatly improves the view of the West Passage from the Battery. Once we get a field of native grasses established in the cleared area we can maintain it and keep it from growing up again.

Volunteers are meeting on Saturday morning at 9 am in the field by the Battery. We’ll be harvesting the Broom Sedge growing in the field and spreading it on the cleared area, where it will drop its seeds and hopefully send up a new crop of native grass. We need rakes, hand hedge clippers, and a few garden carts or wheelbarrows. Loping sheers will do if you don’t have hedge clippers.
