Members who attended the Preview Party of the new Museum Exhibit “Jamestown: Lost and Found” curated by Jim Buttrick, assisted by Rosemary Enright were extremely excited and enthusiastic about the exhibit.
We celebrated Jamestown’s 1776 Battery with the Artillery Company of Newport, the 2nd RI Continental Line, the Jamestown Band, the Cub Scouts, and an honor guard from the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Jim Buttrick set up a tour of Belcourt as an outing for a group of interested JHS members. As you can see from the pictures it was fascinating.
USO 75TH ANNIVERSARY In World War II, there were three forts on Conanicut Island: Fort Wetherill, Fort Getty, and Fort Burnside, which included all of what is now Beavertail State Park.
The Great Creek and the salt marshes on either side of it separate the north end of Conanicut Island from the village.
The North Farm included 360 acres “bounded on the west, north and east by seas or salt water and the south by highway.”
Eighteen tiles are on display at the library. Six of them were created by Constance Armbrust.
Some of the acquisitions and donations to JHS during 2016 are displayed in the new library exhibit. It includes a photo of the painting “Crossing the Great Creek” by J.A.S. Monks donated by Thayer Hutchinson and the Hutchinson family

Our November exhibit in the Jamestown Philomenian Library celebrates sites in Jamestown that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
