The Jamestown Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization and relies on the many members who volunteer their time to helping things run smoothly. Instructions are provided for all roles. Here are some of the ways you can help in 2024:
Windmill Docent (late May to mid-October)
Spend from 1 to 4 PM on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Holiday welcoming visitors to the Windmill. Docents should be able to climb stairs, put out flags and signage, and walk on un-even ground. A cell phone is required in case of an emergency.
Museum Docent (late May to mid-October)
Spend from 1 to 4 PM on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Holiday welcoming visitors to the Museum.
House Tour Docent (September 21 from 10 AM to 2 PM)
Spend two hours (from 10 AM to noon, or noon to 2 PM) at the annual Jamestown Historical Society House Tour welcoming visitors. Docents will be able to visit all the houses on the tour before or after their shift.
Windmill Day (July 27 from 11 AM to 2 PM)
Volunteers are needed to set up and clean up, give tours of the Windmill and Meetinghouse, put the cloths on the sails, oversee the art table or games area, greet visitors, direct parking, and hang signs. Shifts are one or two hours.
Other Events
Help preserve & share the history of Jamestown, RI. Maintain the Museum, the Windmill, the Meetinghouse and the Conanicut Battery. Preserve the Society’s collection of documents, photographs and artifacts.
Sign up if you do not want to become a member at this time, but would like to receive the JHS public announcements, articles, and news updates. Members do not need to sign up here as they will automatically receive all this and invitations to members-only events as well when they join. The JHS will never share the email addresses in our database.
