Library Exhibit, Aug 2018 – Textiles

Hanging in the large meeting room of the Library are three textiles from the collection of the Jamestown Historical Society.  First is the Jamestown Quilt from 1975 created by the Junior Women’s Club.  In a raffle the quilt was won by Mrs. Dalton Brownell.  Upon her death, her two daughters, Barbara and Kathy gave the quilt to the collection.  Shown next it is a photo of the back which contains the names of the Jamestowners that created the 32 squares.  Second is a handhookied rug by Ann Hackett Hutchinson from June, 1996.  In the center are a compass, Beavertail Light House, Clingstone, Brenton Reef Lightship, both bridges, a sailboat and the map of the island.  Around the edges are shells and sea creatures. Third  is a handmade rag rug by Helen Tefft for Ken Froberg in the 1950s on the loom in the JHS collection.  It is 55 x 28.5 inches.
