From Greene Farm to Shoreby Hill
August 2026 Town Hall Exhibit
Stop in the foyer of the Town Hall to see this month’s exhibit from the JHS collection. The monthly Town Hall exhibits feature objects in the collection that are seldom exhibited.
The Town Hall exhibit highlights the evolution of the Greene Farm to Shoreby Hill, showcasing the first homes and people who lived here.
In the late 1800’s a group of families from St. Louis, who had vacationed in Jamestown, purchased the Greene Farm and formed the Jamestown Land Company. A map was drawn for house lots similar to the design of the Private Gardens Suburb in St. Louis. The Greene Farm was transformed into an exclusive resort community. The neighborhood was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
This exhibit through postcards and photos, showcases some of the homes and places enjoyed by these summer visitors.
