SUMMARY:Smith’s Castle Outing
DESCRIPTION:The next outing of the Society is to Smith’s Castle in North Kingstown (www.smithscastle.org/) on Sunday June 26 at 10:00 AM. Smith’s Castle has a remarkable history, developing from a trading post belonging to Roger Williams into a 3,000 acre plantation. There is even a Jamestown connection – Richard Smith was one of the 101 signers of the prepurchase contract for Conanicut and Dutch islands and his son, Richard Smith Jr., negotiated the purchase. We will be given a tour of the building by Robert Geake, local historian and author.\nPlease email info@jhsri.org if you wish to attend. [We need the total number attending for our hosts.] You may carpool to Smith’s Castle with members or drive independently. Indicate in your response whether you wish to carpool and whether you are willing to drive if needed. We will gather in front of the Jamestown Museum at 9:45 and depart at 10:00.\n
