We Took the Ferry

From 1896 to 1969 Jamestown students took the ferry to Newport, two and one-half miles across Narragansett Bay to go to high school. They experienced hurricanes, badly bombed US Navy ships in WWII, and even went to jail! These photos, videos, and stories told by the people who rode the ferry to school, document the last 30 years from 1938 to 1969 when the Newport bridge was completed.

Produced by Bob Sutton in 2014.
