Invitations have called Jamestowners to many events over the years.  An invitation, hand-signed by John L. Smith, Chairman of the Jamestown Bridge Committee, invited the recipient and their guests to the dedication of the Jamestown Bridge on August 3, 1940. There is a photograph of the recently completed bridge at the top of the invitation.  A more formal engraved invitation from Governor Frank Licht and Chairman Francis G. Dwyer invited the select few to the opening ceremonies of the Newport Bridge, June 28, 1969 (see below).

The invitation to visit the newly preserved windmill on June 15, 2001 promised tours and a toast to the people who donated to save the windmill. There are three photographs of the windmill as it is being restored on the cover of the invitation.

Inside is a dedication to Andy Shrake which read: “Please join us at the windmill for a tour, a toast and to meet our talented millwright, Andy Shrake. His skill, determination and hard work has preserved the windmill for us and many future generations.”

These and ten other invitations to events in Jamestown are on display in the Jamestown Philomenian Library foyer.

The invitations will remain on view until the beginning of May.
