James M. Ricci, author of the recently published The Newport Bridge, will be the guest speaker at the Jamestown Historical Society annual meeting on Monday, August 6, at the Jamestown Philomenian Library, 26 North Road.

His talk, “The History of the Newport Bridge: A Monument to Perseverance,” is co-sponsored by the Jamestown Philomenian Library.  His recently published book, The Newport Bridge, will be available for sale after the meeting.

Dr. Ricci, a native Rhode Islander, received his doctorate degree from Salve Regina University in Newport, where he explored that city’s efforts to reinvent itself from a sailor town to a tourist center following World War II.  This led to a particular interest in the quarter-century struggle to build the bridge linking Conanicut and Aquidneck islands.

The society’s business meeting and election of officers will begin at 7 pm in the meeting room at the library.  Dr. Ricci’s presentation will follow at 7:30.
All Are Welcome
