This January, the Jamestown Arts Center will hold an intriguing exhibit that highlights our island in an earlier era. The exhibit, a collaboration with the Jamestown Historical Society and the Jamestown Arts Center, will feature the work of portrait artist Nina A. Baugh Gopcevic (1908 -1981).
Family members recently uncovered portraits in pastels and oil produced by Baugh. She created the artwork between the ages of thirteen and twenty-five, when she married. Pieces from the Nina A. Baugh collection, complemented by art treasures from the Jamestown Historical Society, provide us a rare glimpse into the life of a young and gifted artist and into daily life on Conanicut Island in the 1920s and 1930s.
The exhibit opens on Saturday, January 16 from 6 – 8pm with a reception at the JAC. Gallery hours through March 5: Wednesday – Saturday, 10am – 2pm.
