Charlotte Taylor, author of the recently published Images of American: Rhode Island Shipwrecks, will be the guest speaker at the Jamestown Historical Society annual meeting on Monday, August 7. The business meeting, including election of officers, will begin at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at the Jamestown Philomenian Library. Taylor’s presentation will follow at 7:30.
Taylor is an archaeologist at the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, the state agency responsible for the identification and management of historic sites. Rhode Island has more shipwrecks per square mile than any other state, and in her book Taylor has captured dramatic images of many 19th and 20th century disasters. She also works closely with the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project (RIMAP) on projects such as RIMAP’s ongoing study of the Revolutionary War fleet.
